This is exactly why people mental health is such a taboo and hushed topic to begin with. Of course in order to understand that, you would have to view mental health as being a legitimate and serious subject in the first place. But comparing Simone Biles to a completely different person who is in a completely different stage in their life is? That would be like trying to say Connor McGregor never got such and such an injury, but Simone did, so he’s a better athlete. How is it fair to compare her to Connor McGregor? Comparing a physical ailment that would prevent someone from performing, to a mental one isn’t the same. You can say, “damn, they can do this and that to avoid the injury! “Or, “damn, it wouldn’t be this bad if they didn’t have the injury earlier.” But you don’t pat on their back and write articles to “celebrate”…. You cry, you get disappointed, you feel sorry for them. You don’t celebrate when your favorite athletes injured and quit. “It’s okay to cry, mental issues are health issues”.īut I agree, it’s not something should be celebrated.
